Why should you hire a personal coach?

It’s educational.

One of the best reasons someone can hire a personal coach is to learn about fitness and exercise. They are trained to teach you exercises safely. Although exercise is a small piece of improving one’s health, it’s vital to retaining physical ability while aging.

The importance of education while exercising is important for following reasons:

  1. If you don’t know which exercises are most effective for the goals you have, you are unlikely to achieve those goals. For example, if your goal is to build core strength but you spend all your time on cardio exercises, then you are unlikely to hit your goal.
  2. Education when performing exercises is essential in reducing the risk of injury. Many people every year are seriously injured by performing exercises they have not received training for, and this can impact their health and fitness for a long time. Having someone trained in how to execute certain tasks will greatly reduce the level of risk and increase the effectiveness of your fitness routine. They help perfect form.Having a fitness professional beside you to demonstrate the correct posture and technique is invaluable. A coach will ensure clients are performing exercises correctly and efficiently, in order to maximize results. With poor form, you are at increased risk of injury as well as not achieving your goals (because nothing kills a dream like 8 weeks off of not using a joint!)
  3. They hold you accountable. How many times have you gone to bed and said to yourself, “Tomorrow I’m going to wake up, go to the gym, and do an hour workout before I go to work,” and then woken up and decided to sleep for another hour instead of exercising? This is where a coach is critical to ensuring that you commit and stick to your fitness goals. If you’ve made an appointment to meet your coach for a session, you are far more likely to go to the gym than just telling yourself to go to the gym.
  4. They help set realistic goals. Everyone wants to achieve their goals right away, may they be weight loss, hulk-like strength, or the ability to do what they could in high school or college. But these are not always achievable, and if you don’t hit them you may be discouraged and backslide. A coach will not only help you set realistic goals that you will be able to achieve, if you put in the effort, but they will also be able to keep you on track for your goals. For example, if you want to lose 20 pounds before Christmas, you should start approximately 10-20 weeks out in order to realistically and safely lose that weight. If you wait until a week before Thanksgiving, you’re setting yourself up for failure. Giving yourself time to set and establish an exercise routine and improve your nutrition will significantly improve your ability to achieve your goals.
  5. They improve your mental health. It has long been known that physical exercise can help with mental health issues such as depression, and that it is a recommended part of treatment by many health professionals. Having a coach to help with your exercise plan when you suffer from mental health problems can help with motivation, with choosing the right exercises to release endorphins, and also just having a shoulder to lean on.
  6. They help you form good habits. It takes weeks to form a new habit, and even longer to get rid of a bad one. Trying to do it on your own is hard work. Having a coach is like having an angel on your shoulders encouraging you in the right direction. They can help you form better arguments for the bad angel, and help keep you on track towards you goals.
  7. They can help with your unique requirements. Everybody is different, and that means everyone’s abilities and requirements are different when it comes to exercise. This could be anything from having an old injury that requires special exercises to having a phobia that may impact on where or how you workout. For example, if you have an old knee injury that required surgery, but since then you haven’t done anything to rebuild the muscle or improve your range of motion, you will need different exercises and goals than an athlete who is training to run a marathon. This is where a coach’s experience can make a huge difference to your training program.
  8. They can help with specific goals, such as training for an event. As well as helping you achieve a timeline, a coach is the perfect tool to achieve a specific goal. This is ideal for those who are training for a specific event, or need to achieve a certain level of fitness before they are able to do something they really want to do. For example, if you want to ride a bicycle coast to coast, but are having trouble with tight muscles, lack of strength, or endurance then hiring a personal trainer is a great start to achieving your goal. Or if you want to be able to stand up paddle board with your family, a personal trainer can provide the tools to help you improve your balance and core strength.
  9. They develop a personalized training plan. There are always going to be some exercises that you enjoy more than others. Just because you can do a burpee doesn’t mean you want to. A coach will be able to tailor your training plan to suit you and what you enjoy, as well as encourage you to do the exercises that are best to achieve your goals.
  10. As well as this, there are always going to be days where the last thing you want to do is a heavy workout. A great coach can tailor the workouts to your specific needs for the day while still making the training effective towards the long-term goal.
  11. They fit into your schedule. Your buddies are fun to lift with, but can they fit into your schedule? A coach has more flexibility in their schedule to accommodate your busy life. They understand that everybody has different needs. Any appointment or package can be tailored to your needs, such as appointment length or a combination of services. Just ask.
  12. Increased flexibility of location. Not everyone enjoys the atmosphere of a crowded gym or having to wait for equipment. Hiring a coach can give you access to a private workout space where you don’t have to wait for equipment. You get the most out of your every minute you’re there.
  13. They challenge you. Are you getting bored with your workout routine? Have you progressed beyond the exercises you know and have plateaued in your fitness? A personal coach is exactly what you need to take you to the next level, and continuously challenge your abilities.

Options for Working With Us

2-to-1

Grab a partner and get in shape. Your workouts will help both of you reach your goals, but it isn’t quite as intimate as 1-to-1 training. Great for couples and coworkers.

“I started with Kate individually and then joined a group class with Rock that meets twice per week. It has been a year. I also did the PN online classes. My weight is down, my energy is up, my diet is better than ever, and I’m sleeping well. Rock has designed workouts that navigate around my many old injuries and help me recover. He emphasizes habits and routines that include diet and exercise. The exercise focuses on  improving overall health, including core work. Kate and Rock are meticulously outfitting their new space to make it welcoming and functional. They are actively exploring the space where diet and exercise combine to improve immediate and long-term health. This has been an excellent experience for me.”
